The Arbiters Of Cool website launch party on Saturday 22nd of May saw the Junktique Emporium art space transformed into some crazy kind of nightclub, complete with our own take on the 'red carpet' entrance.

The focus was on some amazing musicians- Victor Valdes & Dauno Martinez, along with some very special guests. They played until the wee hours, only stopping for magicians, mime artists and Hawaiian dancers to grace the stage.

If future Junktique music nights are half as good as this one, don't miss any of them!

Robert and Maiike Pullars Exhibition opens today in out Junktique Art Space ............ at 6 pm

Having seen the pieces arrive yesterday I know it will be a great exhibition and a fun evening.

The salvaged furniture brought back to life by Robert and Maiike is quite exceptional, combining art with functionality. Not only they look amazing they are practical pieces of furniture that can find a place in any artlovers house.

The collection includes, sideboards, cabinets , armchairs, stools, chairs and of course Art .....

Re*volution

Junktique 62 Glebe Point Rd Glebe NSW

Robert and Maaike Pullar together with Junktique present Re*volution, an exhibition of handcrafted furniture.

Inspired by the beauty of forlorn, unwanted furniture and salvaged building materials the pair have worked independently of one another until recently, developing their own style and approach.

A central coast architect who enjoys getting his hands dirty, Rob splits his time between his residential practice, Artichoke Design Studios, and Bricolage, his furniture line. Bricolage refers to the creation of a work from a diverse range of things which happen to be available, and is precisely the process Rob adopts. Each piece is coaxed from weathered industria and painted remnants of discarded timbers. Artful splicing of timber and ephemera ensure that each table, cupboard or plinth is unique. Bricolage has exhibited through Artists in the Gardens at the Sydney Botanical Gardens, as well as galleries on the central coast.

Maaike trained in design and currently manages a sustainable Reuse Co-operative in Sydney's Inner West. Unable to resist unusual and often unappreciated furniture, Maaike introduces pieces found on street curbs and in second hand stores to a raucous colour palette of salvaged fabrics. Each chair is used as a canvas for textile art covering an array of themes from revolutionary propaganda to industrial stencils and irreverent deconstruction of familiar pop culture icons. Her work is currently on display in several galleries in Marrickville, and is the subject of her popular DIY instructional blog.

Re*volution is Maaike's first exhibition in Sydney and the first collaboration for the father - daughter pair. The exhibition will run for five days from opening night on Thursday the 29th of April to 5th of May.

Glebe festival this week end

There is a taste of excitement in the air at Junktique with this weekends activities beginning to take some form. We will be having a fabulous South American band with Oscar Jimenez playing downstairs from about 3pm. Check out a clip below

This is as the chaos and fun of the Glebe Street Fair has had it's merry way with Glebe Point Rd.

Some delectable wines from "Wines Uncovered" will be on show for you to taste. These guys do great prices for Christmas too.

Upstairs in the Attic Screenroom we will have some short films showing. As a pre launch to our Second Hand Film Festival.

A SCREAM TEST! we will be holding an open audition on Sunday for a new Horror Comedy Zombie Movie that's being shot in Sydney early next year. If you have always wanted to be in a movie it's time to show us what you've got!

That's just part of the fun plus all the usual eclectic mayhem you find at Junktique.

The Adaptation Research Network for Marine Biodiversity and Resources
Over the next four years [2009-2012], the Adaptation Research Network for Marine Biodiversity and Resources (or simply, the Marine Adaptation Network) will work closely with the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility to deliver on its vision to build adaptive capacity and adaptive response strategies for the effective management of marine biodiversity and natural marine resources under climate change.

The Marine Adaptation Network comprises a holistic framework of five connecting marine themes (integration; biodiversity and resources; communities; markets; and policy) that cross-cuts climate change risk, marine biodiversity and resources, socio-economics, policy and governance, and includes ecosystems and species from the tropics to Australian Antarctic waters.
The Marine Adaptation Network is hosted within the School of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Tasmania and is led by Associate Professor Neil Holbrook (convenor).
